“Baby Ada on Mars” - by Sam Spratt
Eric Vansingel was the male portrait contest winner, however, he presented me with the option of either painting him on Mars or if I were willing to break the rules, ideally paint his 2 year old daughter there, as he hopes she will share that love with age. Ever the rule-breaker and always one for sentimentality, I obliged.
Inspired by my obsession with Calvin and Hobbes and thus Spaceman Spiff—I spent many hours attempting to create something of a sci-fi snapshot and did my best to make his very not-creepy daughter remain not creepy despite the dramatic and ominous lighting scheme I chose. I hope it came out alright.
