Stumbled upon an old favorite, where my obsession for painting melting things began most likely.

I initially made this quick experimental sketch last year to try to capture a hangover but right now it feels pretty applicable to the scolding-lava-hot summer presently roasting New York.

“Color” -Portrait Painting of Ed Maximus by Sam Spratt
The first of my two Portrait Contest Winners. Though the selection was random, Ed turned out to be a phenomenal photographer and had a great black and white self-portrait that he wanted me to have my way with. Working on the piece I could tell there were a million layers of bullshit symbolism I could easily slap onto this to give it pseudo-intellectual depth and meaning to—but the reality is that it was simply a technical execution of painted color. And it is titled accordingly.
